Let there be light

Melissa Rachiele

How darkness turns to light for you
I fail to understand
  The darkest, heaviest storm clouds
retreat as you step out the door
Racing to see who can reveal the most sunlight
To augment your already golden tan.
    The flickering, failing light bulb
    musters up its strength
    Refusing to burn out
Until after you've left the room
      Tiny, twinkling stars
      blossom and expand
      Illuminating the night sky
To light you to your car
I just don't get it.
