I suppose
according to the Chinese
we jumped the gun a bit--
not that it mattered,
with all the days
not worth remembering,
we chose this one
to drink ourselves to sleep.

Those with a synchronized watches
stood up with the others of their time zone
for a cheer.

Not that I'm against this sort of thing.
Some of us ring in every week or two--
to keep them from running together--
to make time, even a year, New.
