Chewing Life

Eros O'Nubis

Swallowing the world she
looked toward the moon-
light, hoping to find the
life she had lost.
Chewing her problems in
a tight ball of warm
chewing gum; the flavor
of pain and sadness in
the fall of her life.
Spitting out the bones of
that one fish she
caught on that one
happy day, when she
first began fishing in
the spring of life
choking, gagging on the
wad of feeling that she
put into her
body and knew that
it would change her, but
not the way that it changed.
