Europe Trip: July 23 - August 21, 2007

background:

This summer was my third term as DIMACS REU graduate coordinator. For most of the summer I planned and organized seminars, field trips, and other such fun for 25+ undergraduate summer research students at Rutgers. However, the Rutgers program is especially cool in that we have an exchange program with Charles University in Prague. For most of the summer, 5 Czech students came to work at Rutgers. At the end, 5 of the American students and I returned to Prague with them for 2.5 more weeks of math.

As in 2005 and 2006, post-Prague, I used "hmmm, I'm already in Europe" as an excuse to take the train to Budapest and visit friends for a couple weeks, staying through Szent Istvan Day (the Hungarian national holiday on August 20).

To add to the fun this year, Kristin, my best friend from college, flew in to meet me in Budapest, and we took a side trip to Zagreb, Croatia, and Ljubljana, Slovenia, as well.
