Saturday, June 17

the plot:

Saturday was my last morning in Iceland. I met up with Cathy and Chris for breakfast. Then spent the next 4 hours wandering around town. June 17 is National Day in Iceland, i.e. the day that they celebrate their independence from Denmark as of 1944. In the morning before we left, there were many people running around with Icelandic flags, and many booths being set up with candy, snacks, and balloons for later in the day. It was fun to watch the city wake up and get excited, even if we missed the bulk of fun later in the day.

By 1pm, we were all ready and waiting for the airport bus to ship us back to Keflavik, and then for the 6 hour flight to JFK.

Truth be told, it was a great trip, and I think Iceland is a *beautiful* country. However, I was relieved to land in NY and (1) not be cold and wet, and (2) get to sleep in the DARK for the first time in a week. :)

THE END.
