Tuesday, June 12
the plot:
Tuesday was filled with lots more talks. The thing about being in a small town was that most touristy things close about the time talks were done, so I had to move fast during our 2 hour lunch breaks if I wanted to see stuff.
For Tuesday lunch, a group of us walked into town and got quick food at a local grill. I took the wait time for my food to take some pictures of money. The thing about money in Scotland is that Scotland has pounds, just like England, but there are separate Scottish pounds and English pounds. What's more, the Scottish pounds are issued by three different banks, and each prints their own unique version. So with the same currency amount, you can get many different looking bills (as evidenced below). When the owner of the restaurant saw me photographing money, he brought over several special notes from the cash register and let me photograph them too. It was fun. :)
From lunch, we went on to the cathedral, to see it during the day. St. Rule's tower (the large squarish tower on the property, which is 200 years older than the rest of the ruins) allows visitors to climb to the top for a view of town. I went to purchase my token to see the top, which included a museum of really old tombstones. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the top before lunch was over though. However, I did finally get to see the coast of the north sea, and briefly see the nearby ruins of St. Andrews Castle.
Summary: lots and lots of stonework and ruins. :)
