Public Relations Committee

Committee Heads -- Br. Arif Huda, Sr. Hena Ahsan & Sr. Amina Esseghir

Mission Statement

The primary function of the Public Relations Committee is to reach out to the non-Muslim community to dispel stereotypes about Islam and to help educate the public in key matters that affect the American community, Muslim and non-Muslim alike. We also work to advertise the activities of Muslims and the Islamic Society of Rutgers University to Muslims and non-Muslims. We focus on first getting the word out to students on campus, then advertising our larger events outside of Rutgers to other universities, local and regional Muslim communities and to the general public. Some types of involvement that we are planning are:
  • Large events that will educate the University community on current developments that affect the everyday lives of Muslims and non-Muslims.
  • Volunteer Work through which we can show others what Islam is really about and dispel common stereotypes.
  • Small Seminars, in conjunction with the other committees, for a more personal look into Islam and its daily practices. (For Muslims and non- Muslims).
  • Attention in the local media, whether it be in Rutgers newspapers, local newspapers, television, or radio, so that the true face of Islam is presented to the University community.
  • Letters/Protests/Boycotts of businesses and/or governmental agencies that portray Islam in an unfair or disrespectful manner.
The committee heads of Public Relations would like to invite back all the returning members of ISRU and extend a warm welcome to all the students new to Rutgers and to ISRU. We have many goals for the upcoming year, and we ask for the cooperation/participation of all members so that these goals may be achieved. We are open to any suggestions that the members may have, and will do our best Inshaa' Allah to give equal attention to all of these suggestions.

To make all this possible, we need all the members to pitch in and contribute in any way they can.

Inshaa' Allah, we look forward to making this year a great success.

Ayah (Verse) of the Month:

"God! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory)."

(Surat Al-Baqarah 2:255)

Hadith of the Month:

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah: The Messenger of Allah said, "Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day, either speak good or keep silent, and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his neighbor, and let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his guest."
