Habitat for Humanity International - Rutgers College Chapter
The purpose of the organization is to build and rehabilitate houses in partnership with Habitat affiliates and homeowners, raise funds for the work of Habitat, and educate the campus and local community about Habitat and affordable housing issues. Membership shall be open to all Rutgers University students and must comply with deferral laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, sex, handicap, age, sexual orientation, or political and religious affiliation.
Compliance with these laws means that membership, benefits and the election of officers will not be made on the basis of these factors. The titles and roles of the officers of the organization are as follows:
President- President shall lead organization in such ways that will encourage members to be dedicated in their participation. He/She will oversee all events and meetings and must approve all proposals before any action is taken by the organization. Must work closely with officers and be open to suggestions that will benefit the group as a whole.
Vice-President- Vice-President must be able to assist and support the president and other officers in their duties. He/She must be prepared to fill in for the other officers in case of their absence or inability to fulfill an act.
Secretary- The secretary shall take minutes at each meeting and keep attendance and keep up with basic clerical duties. Must have an agenda prepared for each meeting. He/she must serve as a medium for communication between all members.
Treasurer- The treasurer will maintain the entire budget of the organization. Must record all expense and anticipate future costs and manage funds accordingly. He/she must approve of all budget proposals before any money shall be utilized. Must be able to manage fundraisers when necessary and control spending. He/she shall make a monthly report on all financial issues.
Director of Public Relations- Must keep campus and local community aware of the organizations goals, issues and current events. He/she shall organize social events to promote cause and encourage involvement. He/she is in charge of advertising information about the club through fliers, and necessary news outlets, such as the Daily Targum, or Rutgers T.V.
Fundraiser Chair- The Fundraiser Officer is responsible for leading the fundraising committees, and the events pertaining to fundraising. Makes sure the participants in the committees are doing their part of the job. He/she is further responsible for dividing the work between members of the committee.
Events Chair- The Events Officer is responsible for contacting local habitat organizations or county affiliates to stay updated on the different builds or events going on and maintain a basis of communication through our club with other groups and affiliates. The officer is responsible for building dates, and finding individuals interested in participating in different scheduled builds.
Any officer above must fulfill the following requirements:
1. Must check email on a constant basis
2. Must attend all unexcused General Meetings and Officer Meetings
3. Must notify the President and or Secretary if he/she cannot attend a meeting
4. Must work towards the common goal of Habitat for Humanity
5. Must accomplish the tasks of his or her position
Any failure to fulfill these requirements, or majority consent from the board that the officer is not fulfilling his or her duty, will subject the officer to a probation period of three months in which he/she will be expected to fulfill the above requirements. What is to be accepted as an excused absence for this officer as well as any additional requirements the officer must fulfill will be determined by the current board. If he or she does meet the requirements set up for him or her, then there is grounds for impeachment (described below), and the officer status is to be removed for the entire semester.
The impeachment process is as follows: If an officer performs an act that is grounds for impeachment, he / she will be asked to present him or herself in front of the board and explain his or her situation. If the entire board cannot attend, a majority must be present. After the officer has presented his or her case, the present board will vote on whether the officer has a legitimate case and should stay on board. A simple majority decides.
The method of election/selection for officers in this organization will be as follows: Potential officers must receive at least two nominations. An anonymous voting system will be utilized where the majority of votes will appoint the officer. All candidates for an officer position must be active members of the organization and must have a GPA of at least 2.0. Each candidate must prepare a short speech which will be stated before the entire organization. All active members of the organization will be eligible to vote. Election of officers will occur at the end of the spring semester of every year.
This organization shall abide by all applicable laws of the State of New Jersey and the United States. This organization shall abide by all applicable rules and regulations of the University and under the privileges as granted by the Office of Student Involvement, Deans, and Dean of Students where chartered. This organization shall also abide by the rules and regulations of the Board of Governors, the University, and the colleges as provided by the Board of Governors and the Deans of the Colleges.
