DRAFT CONSTITUION
OF THE
AMERICAN MUSLIM
ALLIANCE OF RUTGERS UNIVERSITY
(A.M.A)
NAME:
The organization shall be known as the American Muslim Alliance of Rutgers University, or A.M.A.
OBJECTIVES:
To increase political, social, and religious awareness among the Muslim and other communities around the world concerning political, social, and religious issues at local, communal, regional, and global levels. The main objective is to increase local and communal awareness among the Muslim community in America concerning issues of political, social, and active importance. The issues addressed will concern the Muslim community in particular and American society in general:
These ideals are for the benefit of the students and the community of Rutgers University. The organization shall also abide by all applicable rules and regulations of the University and utilize the privileges granted by the Student Activities Office and where chartered in order to attain its objectives.
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership is open to all Rutgers University students regardless of college affiliation, sex, age, and religious or ethnic backgrounds. Members must comply with the objectives laid down above and promote a harmonious environment and must refrain from creating difficult situations between the members and within the organization. The must promote an environment in line with Islamic ethics and invite other Rutgers University students to participate in AMA activities and ideals.
OFFICERS:
The Executive Board shall consist of four positions with their duties listed below:
President: S/he shall act as the formal representative of the organization in all matters. S/he shall ensure the promotion of AMA objectives and ensure an environment beneficial for intellectual, social, communal, and local progress in all maters. S/he shall be responsible for coordinating and presenting all future AMA activities and meetings.
Vice President: S/he shall assist the President in all matters of importance and ensure that s/he acts in accordance with appropriate objectives and abides by all applicable laws in promoting AMA objectives. If the President is absent at any AMA activity, s/he will assume his/her role.
Treasurer: S/he shall keep record of all financial accounts, transactions, and balances of the AMA. S/he will also update the Board about possible financial funding, fundraisers, payments, debts, and situations.
Secretary: S/he will ensure the proceedings of all Board meetings and general meetings are in accordance with the appropriate procedure. S/he is also responsible for member lists, mailing lists, and public relation activities such as promoting the organization; maintaining correspondence with other organizations, and ensuring a harmonious relation with the university.
If an officer does not fulfill his/her obligations and acts against AMA objectives and does not abide by the proper Rutgers University rules, then the following course of action shall be taken:
· The individual shall be approached by the Executive Board and forewarned verbally the first time
· S/he shall be issued a second verbal and written warning
· S/he shall be issued a third verbal and written warning
· S/he shall be promptly removed from the Board
All documentation of such proceedings shall be done by the Secretary, and in case
The Secretary is the individual concerned, then it shall be the responsibility of the Vice President.
ELECTIONS:
Officers shall be elected into the executive board by a seventy five percent (75%) vote among the member body. Any eligible member regardless of sex, age, ethnicity, or religion can be nominated for any open position on the board. The nominees for all positions must have been active AMA members for at least two (2) years. Elections shall be held at the end of every Spring semester, unless other circumstances arise.
ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP:
There is no election for membership, but active membership is defined as being present at AMA public meetings at least twice out of four meetings.
AMENDMENTS:
The constitution shall be amended only if the following cases:
· An entirely new Board takes over from an older one
· There is a move in the majority of members to amend, and is approved by a majority of the Board.
