Summary
Our first three matches in this tournament, fraught with repeats, came
down to the last question. Unfortunately for us, we lost two of
those matches. We coasted through the rest of the prelims in
spite of our hearing things for the third time by round 7, and ended up
5-2 to qualify for the upper bracket. We got a little tired both
physically and mentally toward the end of the day, but managed a win
over Williams B to finish fifth. It was a good finish, and credit
to the teams that finished ahead of us is due. Props also go out
to Chris, who was playing in his first tournament and handled the
craziness pretty well. On the other hand,
it must be said that, between the repeats (some of which were internal
to packets), choices of topics, numerous bonus lead-ins about people
having tests to study for (and judging by the questions, we bet they
got a C at best), shady opening clues, and dubious factuality
of some of the clues, these questions were quite awful. By the
way, did I mention that the questions contained a lot of repeat
information?
