NAQT New Jersey State Championships
March 4, 2006
Rutgers University
Dear Academic Team Advisor:
The Rutgers University
Academic Team is proud to host the 2006 New Jersey High School
Championships
on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Your team is
invited to participate in this tournament, which will feature a full
day of
competition held on the College Avenue campus of Rutgers University in
New
Brunswick, New Jersey.
The tournament will follow
modified-NAQT (National Academic Quiz Tournaments) rules. Each
untimed round will consist of a set
number of toss-up questions with corresponding bonus questions.
Toss-up questions will be answered using a
lockout buzzer system, with bonus questions going to the team answering
the
toss-up correctly. NAQT will also
provide the questions, which will cover a variety of subjects including
mathematics, science, literature, history, geography, current events,
fine
arts, mythology, philosophy, religion, general knowledge, social
sciences, and
sports. Teams can be composed of any
number of students, but only four students may play at the same
time. Official NAQT rules can be found at NAQT’s
website, http://www.naqt.com
Our use of modified-NAQT
rules will allow top finishers (pending a sufficient number of teams
attend) to
secure bids for the NAQT High School Championship Tournament to be held
on the
weekend of June 2nd in Chicago. Our goal
is that each team plays as many matches as possible. Therefore, a
divisional round-robin will be
used as the format for preliminary and playoff competition. Most
teams will not be eliminated from play
if they fail to qualify for the playoff bracket. Instead, they
will play a round-robin against
teams of similar ability in a consolation bracket. We estimate
that each team will play at least
10 matches. Directions to the event,
parking information, a tentative schedule, and a list of places to eat
on
campus will be distributed to registering teams through e-mail.
The registration fee is $90
for the first team and $80 for each additional team. Schools may
register two teams and place
additional teams on a waiting list. A $10 discount will be awarded for
each
working buzzer system that supports 4 on 4 play. Please register
as many buzzer systems as
your means will allow. Each lockout
buzzer system registered will allow us to extend the capacity of teams
we can
accommodate in the field. A limited
number of teams will be accepted so spots will be given on a
first-come,
first-serve basis. Please return the
enclosed registration form by February 17th, 2006. The registration fee
may be
paid by mail with the registration form (preferred) or at the
tournament site.
The Rutgers University
Academic Team looks forward to seeing you on campus for the state
championship!
Sincerely,
Karen Milideo, President
Rutgers University Academic
Team
