Technophobia Mirror
Rutgers-Newark
November 19, 2005
Team: Jeff Bennett, Jason Keller, Chris Skalit
Record: 9-2 (7-1 prelims, 2-1 playoffs); Second Place
Tournament Winner: Brown
Summary
This tournament marked the RUAT debut (and perhaps final performance)
of one Jeffrey Samuel Bennett. We went into lunch 4-1 without
much to write home about; we hoped that we'd get a chance to avenge our
loss to Brown later. Then came lunch. Jeff gave us and the
team from Johns Hopkins a tour of some of the architectural wonders of
Newark, including Military Park and the Essex County Courthouse (if you
think there's nothing in Newark to see, we suggest you go here); something
that we usually don't get to do when we
travel for tournaments. Then we returned to play Hopkins, and it
went rather well; we won the rest of our prelim games to take the
second seed in the playoffs. We survived a packet with a tossup
on the Pilgrims that began by mentioning that they left for Holland in
1607 and Myles Standish soon after, and got a rematch with Brown
with a chance to tie things up and force a final, but it wasn't to
be. Though it was a little bit disappointing, the tournament
experience was wonderful, and we got to take home some random
stuff for our second place finish.
