Each year, the organization awards the Toni F. Alexander Scholarship to a well-deserving, contributing freshman member of MEET. For background history on the extraordinary lady in whose honor this award is given, here is a short bio about Ms. Toni F. Alexander:
Toni Francis Alexander, born May 21, 1961, graduated from Rutgers University, School of Engineering in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. She was a dedicated member who served as Secretary of MEET, the Minority Engineering Educational Task, for two years as well as participated in numerous committees within MEET. Ms. Alexander was the co-founder and president of Sigma Beta Epsilon Sorority, Inc. – Beta Chapter. She also was an EOF Summer Counselor/Tutor and an advocate for the Big Brother/Big Sister program.
During her time here at Rutgers University, Ms. Alexander has truly embodied the mission of our organization. She indeed was a cultural and responsible engineer who succeeded academically and professionally, and continues to positively impact the community. Because of her unselfish giving of herself to help others, Ms. Alexander will always serve as a role model for all of us. ~Aisha
