TO GET THE MOST OF YOUR

PSYCHOLOGY EDUCATION AT RUTGERS

 

 

 

1.     Take Honors Sections, Advanced Topics, and Graduate Classes.

 

2.     Find your Sub-Area EARLY.

 

3.     Discover your research objectives within that Sub-Area EARLY.

 

4.     Become friendly with at least three professors in your sub-area by the end of your junior year.

 

5.     Join a psychology research group or lab no later than the beginning of sophomore year. (It’s okay to jump around to labs in different sub-areas from semester to semester, until you find your niche, but begin early!)

 

6.     Read books and journal articles, and attend presentations to learn of other recent developments in psychology.

 

7.     Take a Fieldwork in Psychology class, or an Applied/Community Psychology internship.

 

8.     Carry out your own senior honors research thesis.

 

9.     Get involved in psychology-oriented organizations early.

 

10.Attend Rutgers psychology and cognitive science colloquia, and other regional conferences.  (Network with professors and graduate students there and question aspects of their presentations and research!)
