About Us ::

Rutgers SHRM chapter (RUSHRM) is the student unit of the larger national Society of Human Resource Management. It  is affiliated to the School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR) and strives to increase interaction among Human Resource Management students, researchers and practitioners. The chapter facilitates exchange of information and keeps students abreast of the latest trends in the HR field. The chapter is managed by the leadership team under the guidance of a  faculty advisor.

RUSHRM activities include, but are not limited to the following:

v    Business conference, which is an annual event which was established in year 2004 and has been a success for the past 3 years.  

  1. In year 2004,   we had VP's from Fidelity Investments, Lucent Technologies, Cognizant and Charles Schwab who spoke on issues related to leadership development.

  2. The second annual Rutgers University SHRM Business Conference was held on March 24, 2006.  The conference addressed current, important topics and trends pertaining to the subject of managing international human resources.  A distinguished array of experts with abundant experience in the field of HR presented related topics.  There were distinguished speakers from major organizations like BOC, Avaya, Morgan Stanley and SHRM.  Subject matter experts in International HR from Rutgers University also participated in the conference. 

  3. Our third business conference was held in 2007 on "HR Strategy and Leadership in an Era of Change" Our speakers included:

    • Jeanne Fredoryk, VP HR Johnson & Johnson

    • Robert Childs, VP/RL HR Global Commercial Card American Express

    • Mike Markovits, VP Global Executive and Organizational Capability IBM

    • Steve Miranda, Chief HR and Strategic Planning Officer, SHRM

    • Tracey Staley, VP HR Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems and Sensors

    • Mark Huselid, Rutgers University Professor

v     Workshops on resume writing by Career Services and HR Executives from different companies like IBM are also facilitated by RUSHRM.

v    A workshop on MS Office was held in 2007 to provide students with a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office.

v      We have a chapter meeting every month which is open to all students.
