CONSTITUTION PURPOSE (ADDENDUM) :
The overall goals include the following:
1.
Compete extramurally in regional and national scholastic events
including
formal NNJSRA, CNJSRA, MSRA leagues and the United
States Collegiate Squash
Association (CSA) Championships.
2.
Create organizational framework to provide squash events and
clinics,
formal coaching, health & fitness training, and
promotional activities with
increasing emphasis for leadership
roles for Rutgers University
undergraduates.
3.
Organize events and widen access to appropriate squash
facilities for
members of the Rutgers University community.
4.
Promote Squash through ongoing instructional, competitive,
recreational,
and community awareness programs.
(A)How is the primary goal in the purpose section of the constitution to be achieved?
(1)Rental of club courts of the correct dimensions for CSA and regional competitions,
(2)Off court coaching from the RU team Coach supplemented by Physical Educational staff at RU –including training regimens to improve, conditioning,cardiovascular strength,and muscle endurance,flexibility and strength, wind sprints,weight training,distance running,jump rope and other cross training methods selected from known protocols.
(3)On court coaching from the RU team coach in-Stroke production / ball control, footwork, strategy, including courtwork and drills and mental preparation for matches,
(4)Intramural ladder to select teams playing in the regional A,B,C level leagues,
(5)Selection of teams from league matches for national level tournaments,
(6)Coaching from Internationally qualified Coaches,
(7)Exhibition matches by Internationaly ranked players,
(8)Instructional (a) travel to professional tournaments such as the US Open and the Tournament of Champions(TOC),(b) viewing videos / DVDs or The Tennis Channel for major international squash tournaments,such as the World Open ,The British Open,etc.. (c) instructional videos / DVDs for techniques on stroke production,ball control,footwork / posture and movement,mental preparation for tournaments,physical conditioning.
(9)Sponsorships by racquet manufacturers,
(10)League play,
(11)Tournament play,
(12)USSRA / CNJSRA /NNJSRA sponsored training programs,
(B)How are the secondary goals outlined in the purpose section of the constitution to be achieved?
(1) Clinics at Werblin Center :for beginning level university students,faculty and staff including courses on squash racquets taught as part of the RU curriculum.
(2) Community/Civic interactions: with CitySquash and StreetSquash Organisations for Middle and High School Inner City students based in NYC and playing at Fordham and Columbia Universities
(2) Play in regional leagues :in CNJSRA,NNJSRA and MSRA.
(3) Play in University leagues with : Columbia,NYU,Fordham,Stonybrook and Princeton
(4) Travel for instructional purposes :to professional tournaments TOC,
(5) Social and cultural events : such as matches coupled with jazz/classical music, museum outings in NYC and Picnics/pizza at clinics open to university students,faculty and staff at Werblin Gymnasium.
Squash has been rated by coaches/excercise physiologists/players as the best of 10 sports for maintaining cardiorespiratory conditioning,muscle- flexibility,endurance and strength and provides a natural health benefit for non-travelling / non-competing members (see attached article from Forbes magazine10th October 2003 after page 8 of application materials).
Community / civic service -both CitySquash (playing out of Fordham University) and StreetSquash (playing out of Columbia University) will be interacting with the RU Squash Racquets Club (see attachhment after pg 8).
