Mission Statement | Executive Board

Recently reactivated at Douglass College, the Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey at Rutgers University strives to meet the standards set by the state and national caucuses. WPCNJ@ RU has successfully organized political internship workshops, campaigning workshops, and an image workshop just to name a few of our accomplishments.

Mission Statement

Founded in 1971, the National Women's Political Caucus is a multi-partisan organization dedicated to strengthening the role of women in government and to the issues of most importance to women. The Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey and the Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey at Rutgers University are affiliates of the national organization.

WPC-NJ recruits and trains women candidates and their campaign organizations. WPC-NJ endorses candidates who supported reproductive freedom, the Equal Rights Amendment, and other issues that affect women and families. This student chapter is committed to the goals of the National Women's Political Caucus and the Women's Political Caucus of New Jersey.

The Women's Political Caucus of Rutgers University:

Supports the goals of the State Caucus

Provides opportunities for women to develop and strengthen leadership skills

Promotes public awareness of issues that affect women and families

Encourages college women to participate in the political process

Activities include:

Opportunities to attend functions sponsored by the State Caucus, such as the Barbara Boggs Sigmund Awards and the Annual Good Guys Awards, as well as workshops like Ready to Run, How to Network, and How to Lobby

Producing public information programs featuring guest speakers

Distribution of fact sheets on candidate positions and platforms

 

Executive Board

The Executive Board shall consist of all of the officers listed below and the Chairs of all committees.

President

The President shall preside at all meetings of the Caucus. The President shall be the spokesperson for the organization and shall be responsible for the formulation of policy together with the Executive Board. The President shall appoint all Committee Chairs and other non- elective Officers. In addition, the President shall direct the work of the organization and be an ex officio member of all committees save the Nominating Committee.

First Vice President

The First Vice President shall assist the President in carrying out the functions and duties of the office. In the absence of the President, the First Vice President shall preside over meetings of the Caucus. After one full term, the First Vice President shall assume the office of President. In the event of the death, disqualification, or resignation of the President, the First Vice President shall assume the office of President.

Second Vice-president

The Second Vice President, in addition to the First Vice President, shall assist the President in carrying out the functions and duties of that office, and in particular, shall be responsible for the supervision of the membership recruitment activities of the Caucus. In the event of the death, disqualification, or resignation of the President and the First Vice President, the Second Vice President shall assume the office of President until the next Annual Meeting. In the absence of a Second Vice President, the stated duties shall be assumed by the First Vice President.

Recording Secretary

The Recording Secretary shall be responsible for maintaining the records of the Caucus, and shall also be responsible for the taking of minutes at all meetings.

Corresponding Secretary

The Corresponding Secretary shall be responsible for the correspondence of the Caucus, and for the sending of notices of all meetings. In the absence of a Corresponding secretary, the duties shall be assumed by the Recording Secretary or assigned by the President.

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall be responsible for all funds of the Caucus and shall keep a record of its receipts and expenditures. The Treasurer shall submit a financial report at each regular meeting, and an income statement at the Annual Meeting. The Treasurer shall deposit the monies belonging to the Caucus in a financial institution designated by the Executive Board, and shall withdraw monies only upon authorization of the Caucus or the Executive Board as specified by Article IV, Section 1 of these By-Laws. The Treasurer shall submit the books for audit annually following the Annual Meeting to the Executive Board or to the Board of Trustees.

The Treasurer shall mail out or shall cause to be mailed out, annual renewal notices to the membership and shall supply to the board a list of all members who have paid dues.

State Delegate and Alternate Delegate

One Delegate and One Alternate Delegate shall represent the Caucus at meetings of the State Caucus. Three consecutive absences without a valid reason from meetings of the Board of Directors shall be deemed a resignation.

Parliamentarian

The Parliamentarian shall advise the Coordinator on the Rules of Order.

Committees

The Constitution and By-Laws Committee - The Constitution and By-Laws Committee shall prepare amendments of the Constitution and By-Laws for presentation to the membership.

Membership Committee - The Membership Committee shall actively recruit people for membership.

Finance Committee - The Finance Committee shall plan the annual budget of the Caucus to be submitted at the first regular meeting of the school year. In addition, it shall handle all fund-raising
activities.

Publicity Committee - The Publicity Committee shall be responsible for issuing press releases. The content of the press release shall be subject to the general approval of the President.

Newsletter Committee - The Newsletter Editor shall be Chair of the Newsletter Committee and shall prepare a newsletter for issuance prior to each regular and annual meeting. The content of the
newsletter shall be subject to the general approval of the President.

Election Committee - The Election Committee shall be responsible for conducting all elections in accordance with these By-Laws. Duties of the Election Committee include scheduling elections, issuing notice to the active membership, and providing procedural guidelines to candidates and voters.

Recommendations and Endorsements Committee - The Recommendations and Endorsements Committee shall be responsible for obtaining the names of candidates endorsed by the State Caucus and contact information for the individual campaigns. The Committee shall compose a fact sheet listing all candidates and their positions on issues of interest to the Caucus.

Program Committee - The Program Committee shall suggest ideas for programs to raise public awareness of issues of interest to the Caucus. The Committee shall carry out plans approved by the Executive Board.
